The 2016 sports car racing season starts tomorrow with the 24 Hours of Daytona. While the modern version of the race is still entertaining it just doesn’t compare to the amazing 70’s. The racing is more competitive but the cars are, well I would say boring.
What a good reason to remember what happened 45 years ago when the awesome Porsche 917 ruled endurance racing. In this particular race, Pedro Rodriguez and Jackie Oliver beat two of the prettiest Ferrari’s ever made, the Ferrari 512. Even a Corvette driven by Tony DeLorenzo (USA), Don Yenko (USA) and John Mahler (USA) got in the top 4 although it was 65 laps down.
