When I first opened up the trunk area of my MGB GT and removed the miscellaneous tools and spare tire I was somewhat shocked by what appeared to be some serious rust issues. Things just didn’t look great, lots of corrosion on the bolts, built up grunge everywhere, I guess what you can expect from a 1967 MGB. I tackled the mess a few days ago and after hitting the area with your typical engine cleaners and anything else I could find wasn’t feeling very hopeful. Nothing would take the crud off.
Time to get serious! I grabbed a can of the highly toxic crud eating formula that I use to clean router bits and table saw blades. An hour later after numerous applications and a few good rinses everything’s looking pretty good. Unfortunately it does tend to etch the paint a little but as I’m going to be repainting the trunk area anyway this won’t be a problem. Check out the before and after photos.
