Chop up the family

When I first came across this vintage advertisement I was amazed. What’s this crazy dad doing with his pruning shears? It looks to me as though he’s contemplating doing a horrible crime to his lovely all American family. Will the family fit in the trunk of his huge American car until he can dispose of the bodies? Will he have to leave the toys behind?

Fortunately I was able to find the image with the ad copy attached and while I was a bit relieved it took something out of the intrigue. Lifeguard Blowout Shields by Goodyear, perhaps he’s only planning an attack on the tires.
