Lotus Elite – A quart of oil every 300 miles

It’s hard to imaging running an ad for a car and bragging about how much oil it uses but that’s what Lotus Cars did with the Lotus Elite around 1960.

“Yes, Lotus cars, like all other high performance racing machines, use oil. The Elite GT is no exception.”

When I look at the puddle forming under my MGB GT I wonder whether this really has much to do with the engine burning oil or is most of it slowly dripping away in our driveways and flowing down the storm drain? What’s your experience?
