MGB GT engine teardown has started

It’s finally happening! I have the MG’s engine attached to an engine stand and can start disassembling the block. This should be fun but at the same time it’s a little scary what might be found. The ultimate goal here is to get the crankshaft out and evaluate its’ condition. It certainly will need to be reground.

My main concern is metal particles floating around the engine and I’ll do a thorough examination after removing the crankshaft. Hopefully it will be clean and a good wipe down will get it back in business. Worse case scenario… completely disassemble the whole engine.

I’ll likely get carried away and repaint the block and other pieces while the engine is out. Years worth of grime needs to come off, it’s not even fun handling this lump.

The GT looks sad in the background without an engine.
