Both my MGB GT and my Lotus Europa have somewhat worn carpet and even worse looking car mats. I bought about 13 yards of two different types of carpet to redo the interiors of both cars. The Lotus is going to be done in a classic black hook and loop carpet while the MGB will be done with a grey outdoor carpet that I originally had bought for the Lotus but decided not to use.
Fortunately a friend has a heavy duty sewing machine and I’ve been spending some time trying to become at least a decent sewer or whatever you call a guy that sews.
I’m starting out by making mats for the Lotus out of the grey material to get experience. I think I have 8 yards of the grey so can afford to mess up more often although I don’t think that will happen. Eventually I would like to put Coco mats for both cars but that will come later if I can ever get back into the USA again!.
This is a very affordable way to make a huge change in how your old car looks. The project is keeping me motivated during this bizarre pandemic we are experiencing and I’m really enjoying learning a new skill. I might need a third car soon to keep going!
