I pretty much finished installing the Noico 80 mil car sound deadening mat in my Lotus Europa yesterday and it worked out really well. Unfortunately I’m about 5 sqft short so had to put another order in for a small package so I can cover the door interiors.
What an amazing difference it makes. You can tell how much quieter the car will be by just tapping on body panels. Rather than a ringing sound you now get a dull thud. Hopefully this will translate to a quieter mid-engine car in real life!
Out of interest for the MGB owners out there, I used about 60 sqft of the Noico 80 mil car sound deadening mat. Looking at the MGB GT I would guess that it might require a little more, the MGB roadster a little less.
Something to note here is that I used the Noico to cover the entire interior. This isn’t always necessary as even small amounts applied to panels will dampen the sound somewhat. I used it everywhere because it will hopefully also act as a good heat barrier. The Lotus Europa is both a hot and very loud car with the engine located directly behind your head.
A layer of Noico car heat and sound insulation is installed on top of the sound deadening mat and adds an additional level of sound absorption. For most of the interior I used the companies 150 mill material but went with the thicker 315 mill material for the firewall located a few inches behind my head.
For total cost of this project came in at approximately $340 CAN or about $240 US. This is substantially less than Dynamat would have cost.
