I’ve been putting together a large collection of racing posters and old racing programs from one of my favourite eras of auto racing, the late 60’s and most of the 70’s. This was the era of innovation with aerodynamics beginning to play a big role in car design. Sports car series like the Can Am Challenge for Group 7 cars in the US and Canada and the equivalent Interserie in Europe featured exotic machines designed with a rule book that was in many ways unlimited. Endurance racing at venues like the 24 Hours of Le Mans were catering to fantastic cars like the Porsche 917, arguably one of the most beautiful and fastest (and apparently scariest to drive) racing cars ever produced.
In some ways, this was the birth of Porsche on the world market as they went on to dominate the endurance scene and unfortunately destroy the Group 7 era. What an era it was.
